Advancing effective, practical early childhood policy

Since 2011, First Five Nebraska has been a leading voice in supporting public policies that advance the early care, education, and development of young children and positive maternal-child health outcomes.

We bring together deep expertise in policy advisement, research and analysis, and strategic engagement to identify solutions to Nebraska’s most urgent early childhood challenges—and grow the political will needed to move them forward.

Policy
Advisement

We are a trusted resource to public officials and communities, helping to assess early childhood needs, evaluate policy options and offer clear, credible guidance on policy design. We support policies that are practical, sustainable and responsive to the specific needs of Nebraskans.

Research & Analysis

We collect, analyze, and interpret data to illuminate early childhood and maternal-child health issues and ensure that policies are based on credible evidence, offering accountability for the investments we make in these areas.

Strategic Engagement

We help build cross-sector partnerships, conduct public education, and promote grassroots advocacy efforts so that support for policy solutions is strategic, well-informed, coordinated, and effective.

  • Make expanded access to child care assistance permanent for eligible Nebraska families.

  • Improve the availability of prenatal, birthing, and postpartum health supports to strengthen outcomes for mothers and children, especially those at risk.

  • Grow access to evidence-based home visiting services to strengthen parent-child relationships and support child safety and development.

  • Streamline and improve child care regulations to reduce administrative burdens on programs while supporting their quality and sustainability.

  • Strengthen the early childhood workforce through strategies that attract, develop and anchor more professionals in early childhood education.

  • Encourage business and economic development leadership in efforts to address the child care shortage.
